(rock music) That’s Randy. He works in the shop. My brother’s back there in the fly out. He works in the shop. Ally and Ashley are just trying to make it look better before Southern Living came to town. Yep. (laughs) (country music) Hey y’all! I am in Laurel, Mississippi, home to Erin and Ben Napier. They’re the stars of HGTV’s series “Home Town”. I am so excited and kinda fan girling a little bit because I get to spend the day with them in two of their shops here in Laurel. I cannot wait. (upbeat music) (electric guitar) Hey y’all. Hey Ivy!
Come on in! Hey, thanks for having me! Thanks for coming to see us. This is our store, the Laurel Mercantile Company. I love it. Most people know you from “Home Town”, but tell me about your store, and just why Laurel? You’re both from here. The store happened before the show. And it was sort of an arm. It even had a stationary company. Yeah the Christmas season was slow with weddings, so I just started an online shop only. It was only online. So then we opened a brick and motar and called it Laurel Mercantile Company. And everything we make and sell is American made. When we’re looking at new products, if we can find things that are made in Laurel that’s great. If we can things that are made in Mississippi, that’s wonderful. If we find things that are made in the South, and then America that’s where we draw the line. Yep, I love it.
It’s pretty cool. Do you have a favorite thing in this store, both of you? I really love our flannels.
I was gonna say– That’s a very unique product. This is ours. Ben–
He’s modeling it now. Ben really designed his perfect shirt. So that’s my favorite men product. But our candles, are our runway best seller. People cannot get enough of our candles. I hear you pick all the scents. I do. I custom create the scents. And sometimes it might be like, “This is the perfume I wore the week when Ben and I met. I want it to be just like this but smell a little bit like roses. Can you do that?” And their like, “Yes!” Well it’s a long process, it’s a journey. But our candles are my pride and joy. Those are my babies. (country music) Erin did most of this artwork. I went to art school. I didn’t go to interior design school. So every house we do, I try to do some original art. I doesn’t always get featured as part of the story or anything, but you’ve probably seen almost everything up here in an episode. Do you have a favorite print, Erin? That’s like choosing your favorite child. Luckily you only have one. Honestly, I do have one favorite print. Do you know you which one it is? That one? Yeah, that grapefruits. That’s my favorite! It’s my favorite too! Today we’re gonna do a special frame then. Yes. I’m excited about it. So I think we should pick whatever. What painting did you like? I kinda like “Saturday Morning”. Where’s the painting? Is the painting going to your house? It’s going to my house. If you love “Saturday Morning” let’s do “Saturday Morning”. All right. So you’re gonna have to help me figure out how that looks. I’m in, let’s do it. I’m pumped. So we’re gonna head to the shop now. Can I ride in the truck? Yes. This is the first time we had painted and then the same guy painted our building. Yep, same font. Classic. Here we go. (country music) Let’s go in the shop now. We’re gonna make a frame! Woo! It looks way different in person than it does on camera. It’s way bigger. We never film anything on this end. So we have a place to put junk. Hey, I know all about that. We film in my house so it’s a lot of rearranging. We’re moving couches all the time it’s nuts. Okay here’s what I’m thinking. We pretend this cardboard is like a mat. You like that?
I love it! Good. I think it works with the color of the bread. It does. And there’s little bits of brown here and there so. So what kind of wood do we want to use? There’s a piece of oak right here. No, let’s just go look at the stash. The big stash. Okay, hold that. Only you know where that lives. All right so this is all drops. These are like scraps that are too big to throw away. That’s awesome. Perfect for framing. Perfect for a picture frame. How is that? Oo! That can be very pretty. So that’s a little beadboard that came out of a house. (saw machine noise) So now, to create the rabbit that that’ll sit in, the groove will rip the bottom of this tongue off. Okay. That make sense? Yeah. You sure?
No. Okay. (laughs) (saw machine noise) Do you see that the picture will sit in there. Oh okay. Good job. (saw machine noise) That’ll be our top and our bottom. I love it. Yeah!
I do too. (saw machine noise) (country music) Perfect. So these are from different houses. This is actually probably from the same house. But I know exactly which house this came from. Can you tell? I don’t remember this thing. This came out of Corey and Caroline’s house. Did it?
Mm-hmm. Season two. Season two, the Burkes. (nail gun noise) All right. Oh!
Ooh! Nice job. Wow. I love beadboard as picture frame. Do you have any beadboard as picture frame in your house? Everywhere. Yeah we can a ton of it.
Like all of it. Love it. Ta da! That looks so good y’all. Isn’t that cool? (claps) That’s so pretty!
Yay! Thank y’all for having me in Laurel. This has been the best day. Yeah, heck yeah.
